'Anumana Pakshi' Review: A Clever Idea That Never Takes Flight
Vimal Krishna's comedy thriller about a chronic overthinker has a promising premise, but weak writing and humour that misfires keep it grounded. Rating: 1.5/5.

‘Anumana Pakshi’, the new comedy thriller from ‘DJ Tillu’ director Vimal Krishna, arrived in theatres on September 25 with Rag Mayur in the lead. The director’s track record set up natural expectations. The film doesn’t come close to meeting them.
The setup
Sunny (Rag Mayur) is a Vizag YouTuber who suspects everything and everyone, and runs a channel devoted to conspiracy theories. When a friend threatens to harm himself, Sunny heads to Kashmir, where he finds himself caught up in a mysterious death.
Performances
Rag Mayur has a few genuinely funny moments, but the thin writing too often turns his comedy into irritation. Merin Philip, as the female lead, is given almost nothing to do, and capable performers like Prince Cecil, Ajay and Brahmaji are equally underused.
Direction and screenplay
A hero who overthinks and suspects everything is a goldmine for comedy, yet the script barely touches it. Scenes don’t connect, the characters lack depth, and the jokes rarely land. The second half grows more chaotic rather than funnier.
Technical aspects
Sricharan Pakala’s music sets the mood reasonably well, and Sunil Kumar Nama’s camerawork is serviceable. The editing and overall production values stay ordinary.
What works
- An interesting central concept
- A handful of moments from Rag Mayur
- A short runtime
What doesn’t
- Humour that misfires far more often than it lands
- Disjointed scenes and weak storytelling
- Thin characters, and a sidelined heroine
- An increasingly chaotic second half
Cine Sarkar’s take
‘Anumana Pakshi’ starts with a good idea and loses it almost entirely in the writing. The short runtime softens the blow, but there’s little else to hold on to. For these reasons, the Cine Sarkar Editorial Desk rates it 1.5/5. Beyond Rag Mayur’s most dedicated fans, this one is easy to skip.
Cine Sarkar verdict: A promising overthinker premise that never takes off, with comedy that rarely lands.
Rating: 1.5/5
