'Crazy Kalyanam' Review: Naresh Shines in a Family Drama That Loses Its Way

Naresh's timing, a confident Anupama and a worthwhile message give 'Crazy Kalyanam' a breezy first half, but an overstuffed second half and a drawn-out wedding episode undo much of the good work. Rating: 2.5/5.

Crazy Kalyanam

నరేష్, అనుపమ నటన, మంచి సందేశం ఉన్నా, గాడి తప్పిన సెకండాఫ్‌తో క్రేజీ కళ్యాణం సగటు కుటుంబ కథగా మిగిలింది.Naresh, Anupama and a good message help, but a meandering second half leaves Crazy Kalyanam an average family drama.

Cine Sarkar Editorial Desk | Our perspective is informed by publicly available reviews, audience reactions, and information surrounding the film.

‘Crazy Kalyanam’, a family drama starring Anupama Parameswaran, VK Naresh and Tharun Bhascker, released in theatres on October 16. It is directed by Badrappa Gajula and produced by Boosam Jagan Mohan Reddy, with music by Suresh Bobbili.

The setup

Keerthi (Anupama Parameswaran), an MSc graduate, is preparing for a government job. Her father Parvathaalu (Naresh), already miserable about his elder daughter’s drunkard husband Balraj (Tharun Bhascker), is determined to marry his younger daughter into a respectable family. Keerthi, however, has fallen for Uday (Akhil Raj), a handloom weaver.

Performances

Naresh is the film’s mainstay, landing both the comedy and the emotional beats as Parvathaalu. Anupama is convincing as a self-reliant young woman and gets the Telangana dialect right. Tharun Bhascker is entertaining as Balraj but deserved more screen time. Akhil Raj is fine.

Direction and screenplay

The film’s core message, a woman’s right to choose her partner, is its strength. After a slow opening half hour, Parvathaalu’s hunt for the perfect match makes the first half fun. The second half tries to juggle too many ideas and emotional subplots and loses its way; the wedding episode runs long without much payoff, and Balraj’s sudden late transformation feels artificial.

Technical aspects

Suresh Bobbili’s songs and score are neat, and Shyam Dupati’s cinematography is good. The second half needed sharper editing, and the production values are modest.

What works

  • Naresh’s performance and timing
  • Anupama Parameswaran’s character and dialect
  • A fun first half
  • A message worth telling

What doesn’t

  • A slow start
  • An overstuffed second half
  • A drawn-out wedding episode
  • An unconvincing late character turn

Cine Sarkar’s take

‘Crazy Kalyanam’ has a good message and actors who can make you laugh, and the first half is easy company. Once the second half loosens its grip and the emotions fail to land, it settles for average. Weighing those strengths against those weaknesses, the Cine Sarkar Editorial Desk rates it 2.5/5. Fans of family dramas can watch it once with modest expectations.

Cine Sarkar verdict: Naresh, Anupama and a good message help, but a meandering second half leaves Crazy Kalyanam an average family drama.

Rating: 2.5/5
