'Garividi Lakshmi' Review: Anandhi Shines in an Honest but Uneven Biopic

An honest tribute to Burra Katha artist Garividi Lakshmi, lifted by a committed Anandhi, but a rushed start and a repetitive second half keep it from moving you as it should. Rating: 2.5/5.

Garividi Lakshmi

ఆనంది నటన, నిజాయితీ ప్రయత్నం మెప్పించినా, నెమ్మదైన కథనంతో గరివిడి లక్ష్మి పూర్తి ప్రభావం చూపలేదు.Anandhi and an honest intent impress, but slow storytelling keeps Garividi Lakshmi from hitting home.

Cine Sarkar Editorial Desk | Our perspective is informed by publicly available reviews, audience reactions, and information surrounding the film.

‘Garividi Lakshmi’, the biopic of the Uttarandhra Burra Katha artist, released in theatres on October 17. Anandhi plays the title role for director Gowri Naidu Jammu. The film is produced by T.G. Vishwa Prasad and Krithi Prasad under People Media Factory, with music by Charan Arjun.

The setup

Reddy Vijaya Lakshmi, better known as Garividi Lakshmi (Anandhi), becomes a household voice across Uttarandhra through audio cassettes and live Burra Katha shows. The film follows her rise and the personal hardships behind the fame.

Performances

Anandhi is excellent, especially in the stage performances and emotional scenes, and gets the Uttarandhra dialect right. Rag Mayur convinces as a man who slides from innocence into arrogance and betrayal. Naresh makes a mark in a small role, and Raasi, Avasarala Srinivas and the rest do their parts.

Direction and screenplay

Bringing a fading folk art form and a forgotten artist to the big screen is worth applauding. The film is stronger on Lakshmi’s hard days than on her rise, and the last few minutes are genuinely moving. But the early portions feel rushed, the second half turns repetitive, and the conflicts and human side of her life needed more depth. Some songs and stage sequences add little.

Technical aspects

Charan Arjun’s songs and score work, and Aditya Javvadi’s cinematography and the production values are good. The second half needed sharper editing.

What works

  • Anandhi’s committed performance
  • A sincere tribute to Burra Katha and its artist
  • The dialect and the songs
  • A moving finale

What doesn’t

  • A rushed opening
  • A slow, repetitive second half
  • Emotional beats that don’t fully land
  • Songs that don’t serve the story

Cine Sarkar’s take

‘Garividi Lakshmi’ is an honest effort, and Anandhi and the Burra Katha sequences give it real value. A loose screenplay and a sluggish second half, though, blunt its impact. Weighing those strengths against those weaknesses, the Cine Sarkar Editorial Desk rates it 2.5/5. Viewers interested in folk art and biopics can give it a one-time watch.

Cine Sarkar verdict: Anandhi and an honest intent impress, but slow storytelling keeps Garividi Lakshmi from hitting home.

Rating: 2.5/5
