పాపులర్ వీడియో గేమ్ ఆధారంగా రూపొందిన హాలీవుడ్ యాక్షన్ చిత్రం ‘స్ట్రీట్ ఫైటర్’ అక్టోబర్ 16న తెలుగులోనూ విడుదలైంది. కితావో సకురాయ్ దర్శకత్వం వహించిన ఈ చిత్రంలో ఆండ్రూ కోజీ, నోవా సెంటినియో, కలీనా లియాంగ్ ప్రధాన పాత్రల్లో నటించారు. మన విద్యుత్ జమ్వాల్ ధల్సిమ్ పాత్రలో కనిపించడం విశేషం.
కథ ఏంటంటే:
1987 వరల్డ్ వారియర్ టోర్నమెంట్ గెలిచిన రియూ (ఆండ్రూ కోజీ)ను ఆ తర్వాతి పరిణామాలు వెంటాడుతుంటాయి. అతనికి దూరమైన సోదరసమానుడు కెన్ (నోవా సెంటినియో) కూడా కథలోకి వస్తాడు. 1993కి కథ చేరేసరికి, రియూలోని ’సైకో ఎనర్జీ’ని వాడుకుని తన శక్తిని పెంచుకోవాలని విలన్ ఎం. బైసన్ (డేవిడ్ డాస్ట్‌మల్చియన్) పథకం వేస్తాడు.
నటీనటులు:
రియూగా ఆండ్రూ కోజీ, కెన్‌గా నోవా సెంటినియో బాగా చేశారు. చున్-లీగా కలీనా లియాంగ్ యాక్షన్ సన్నివేశాలు సినిమాలో బెస్ట్. విద్యుత్ జమ్వాల్‌కు మంచి స్క్రీన్ టైమ్ దక్కింది. గైల్‌గా కోడీ రోడ్స్ ఆకట్టుకున్నారు. బైసన్‌గా డేవిడ్ డాస్ట్‌మల్చియన్ మాత్రం భయపెట్టలేకపోయారు; అకుమాగా రోమన్ రెయిన్స్‌కు చేయడానికి పెద్దగా ఏమీ లేదు.

ఆర్కేడ్ గేమ్ స్ఫూర్తిని దర్శకుడు నిజాయితీగా తెరకెక్కించారు. యానిమే ఫ్లాష్‌బ్యాక్‌లు, 90ల పాటలు, ఓవర్ ది టాప్ ఫినిషింగ్ మూవ్స్ గేమర్లకు పండగే. కానీ కథ బలహీనంగా ఉంది, సెకండాఫ్‌లో చాలాచోట్ల దారి తప్పుతుంది. కొన్ని సన్నివేశాలు పెద్ద స్టార్లు గేమ్ పాత్రల వేషాలు వేసినట్టే అనిపిస్తాయి.
సాంకేతికంగా:
క్లోజ్ కాంబాట్ ఫైట్లు, సెట్ పీస్‌లు, ఛాయాగ్రహణం బాగున్నాయి. ఎడిటింగ్‌లో జంప్ కట్స్ మాత్రం ఇబ్బంది పెడతాయి. బ్లాంకా పాత్ర సీజీఐ నాసిరకంగా ఉంది.

‘Street Fighter’, the Hollywood action film based on the hit video game, released in theatres on October 16, including in Telugu. Directed by Kitao Sakurai, it stars Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo and Callina Liang, with Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim.
The setup
Ryu (Andrew Koji) is haunted by the aftermath of winning the 1987 World Warrior Tournament, and his estranged “brother” Ken (Noah Centineo) is pulled back into his life. By 1993, M. Bison (David Dastmalchian) is plotting to boost his power with the “Psycho Energy” he can draw from Ryu.
Performances
Andrew Koji’s brooding Ryu and Noah Centineo’s Ken work well, and Callina Liang’s Chun-Li delivers some of the film’s best action. Vidyut Jammwal gets a healthy amount of screen time, and Cody Rhodes is a fun Guile. David Dastmalchian’s Bison never feels menacing, though, and Roman Reigns has little to do as Akuma.
Direction and screenplay
Sakurai leans fully into the arcade spirit: anime flashbacks, ’90s music and over-the-top finishing moves that gamers will love. The plot, however, is flimsy and wanders badly in the back half, and some stretches feel like famous faces cosplaying game characters.
Technical aspects
The close-quarters fights, set pieces and cinematography are strong. Choppy editing and jarring jump cuts get in the way, and the CGI Blanka falls short.
