Pre-Independence India. After losing his mother, young Lakshminarayan Sharma leaves home and takes to a spiritual path through his devotion to Lord Hanuman. He will come to be known as Neem Karoli Baba. Running alongside is Dr. Ram Nandan Bhosale, a rationalist scientist with no time for faith, whom a turning point in life brings to the Baba. The film follows the Baba’s journey and the effect he has on those around him.

Performances

Shobhinaw Satyaa is the film’s main strength as Neem Karoli Baba. He never overplays, and brings the character alive through posture and expression. The rest of the cast stays dignified and free of melodrama.

Direction and screenplay

The director handles the spiritual material sincerely and without any political agenda. The stretches tracing the Baba’s journey, the philosophical exchanges about Lord Rama, and the scenes built around compassion and faith are genuinely affecting. But the narrative flows like a quiet stream. Anyone expecting twists or conflict will be disappointed, and the run of miracle sequences in the second half can feel excessive and repetitive.

Technical aspects

The songs and background score give the film its soul, and the music department is its biggest asset. Vishal Bawa’s cinematography captures the period well. The editing needed to be much tighter, as several scenes linger longer than necessary. The Telugu dubbing deserves credit for sounding natural rather than dubbed.
